We know it means sadness, but to

Most of the designs we call
tribal tattoos are from the
South Pacific Polynesian.
They were originally brought
home by sailors who visited
these islands.
They are usually black with
the black being the tattooed
portion and the skin making the space in between the linear or more
commonly spiralling designs.
Originally they told the story of a person and the deeds he (or he
and his family) had accomplished.

The Tattoo Body Art site is to help you explore the tremendous
amount of different tattoo designs available, what they mean (if
anything), and to help you pick the one that is just right for you.
Tattoos that seem great today may be hard to explain to your
children or your grandchildren.
It's important to remember that tattoos should always be thought of
as permanent.
Some are beautiful and some are a little dodgy.
Unfortunately some tattoos are just downright uncomfortable to
explain.
There are removal techniques, but they are
expensive and hurt more than having the tattoo
done in the first place.
And they don't always work completely.
We'll also try to explain the processes involved in
tattooing and help alleviate some of the
anxiety associated with this unknown.
We'll discuss the different types of tattoos and their meaning.
You do not want to get a tat associated with a certain culture or tribe
and find out you are offending someone.
Nor do you want lettering that means something other than
intended.
You'll learn about these tats, find out what they mean and see a few
examples.
Look to the menu on the right and you'll find them sorted out for you
by category.
Hopefully you will learn what tattoo body art is just right for you.
